Bulgarian Photographer Vassilina Dikidjieva inThe Chelsea

NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Juror-selected Bulgarian Photographer Vassilina Dikidjieva inThe Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition. The exhibition opens on August 11th and will run until August 23rd, 2016. The opening reception will take place Thursday, August 11th, from 6-8 PM. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

About the Artist

Vassilina Dikidjieva’s digital photography takes artifice to another level to explore contemporary issues. Placing her own body in clothing and rooms decorated with emblems of another place, Dikidjieva builds identities from mundane objects. She poses with care but without rigidity in sets that are assertively, almost stereotypically “British” or “Greek”, “Urban”or ”Suburban”, “Ancient” or “Modern.” Placing herself in such contexts, Dikijieva explores the “self-expressionism” made possible by the public privacy of modern technology. Brexit and Grexit become avenues to explore attempts to escape from a world that is interconnected politically and technologically.

Born in Bulgaria, Dikidjieva currently lives and works in New Jersey. She is an architect and worked throughout her career in Bulgaria, Ethiopia and New York.

About the Exhibition

The Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition

This August, Agora Gallery is delighted to present the Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition, a collection of work selected by a jury of industry experts in the 31st annual Chelsea International Fine Art Competition. The outstanding participants hail from all over the world and represent an incredible range of style and medium. Sculpture, painting, photography, drawing, and mixed media are all included.

Some pieces employ minimalist techniques to explore texture and form, particularly in regards to negative space. Some revel in bright colors and the creation of dense jungles of detail. Still others deconstruct the human figure and interrogate the meaning of our self-representation. An innovative photographer produces searing emotional portraits. A new kind of landscape shows plants in intimate close-up. Each chosen artist gives us a different temperament, a different visual language. Most importantly, every artist in this exhibition offers a unique slice of modernity.
