Jan 28, 2012, New York: The 8th NYBFF kicks off Tues, Feb 21 through Sat, Feb 25, 2012, at the world-renown Tribeca Cinemas.Fir the 8Th time NYBFF brings the best of the recent Bulgarian cinema to an international audience in New York City.

This year for a first time the Festival will be presented by the organizers of So Independent Film Festival – a festival solely dedicated to the American independent film in South East Europe.

The cinematic production of this small Eastern European country has experienced a phenomenal revival in recent years, and has met with critical acclaim at international film festivals. Since its establishment in 2000, the NYBFF has been one of the foremost specialized independent festivals whose mission it has been to introduce those rich and moving films to a wide American audience and to increase visibility of Bulgarian filmmakers.

This year the NYBFF will present the best titles from the past two years, handpicked from more than 70 submissions, and will show both well-established cinematographers and actors, and rising stars of Bulgarian cinema. The festival will bring together a great number of actors, directors, and producers as guests.

THE PROGRAM

The Film Festival will open with Tilt, the top film of 2011.  A love story caught in the tumult of the political games and social instabilities in the aftermath of 1989, it has already touched American viewers at the Seattle Film Festival, the Santa Barbara Film Festival, and Woodstock Film Festival, and received numerous awards and nominations. Director Victor Chouchkov and producer Borislav Chouchkov will speak about the film, along with famous Bulgarian actor Filip Avramov.

Several of the films explore the moving stories of people whose lives have been marked by the experience of homelessness and return, and a committed search for happiness. Footsteps in the Sand, a touching drama about a lost love and immigration was nominated for Best Balkan Film; The Island, starring indie star, and Palme d’or and Oscar winner Thure Lindhardt, and top model Laetitia Casta, alongside Bulgarian stars, is sure to touch a chord with many who both fear and yearn to belong. The acclaimed directors and producers of both films will participate in a special panel.

The NYBFF will also include the highly successful Love.net, inspired by true stories about looking for love on the internet; N 1, which recently won the prize for best film of 2011 at the Golden Rose Festival, and which chronicles the bloody war between two schools sharing the same building; and the magical story of Lora from Morning till Evening. The production designer of Lora from Morning till Evening will talk about the challenges of translating the magical and fun script into rich visual imagery.

Other highlights include Shelter, a dark comedy about growing up and the universal inability of parents and teenagers to communicate, recipient of awards at the Sofia International Film Festival;Sneakers, which triumphed at numerous European film festivals; and the sensational TV drama Undercover.

Ето че съм в Канада! Очарован съм от тази страна! Прекрасно е! С нетърпение очаквам тези очарователни планини да се покрият със сняг.

14 октомври.

Канада е най-прекрасното място на света! Вчера пътувахме извън града. Видяхме лосове! Толкова са чаровни и красиви! Тук наистина е раят на земята!

11 ноември.

Утре се открива ловният сезон за лосове. Това е ужасно. Просто не мога да си представя, че някой може да вдигне ръка срещу тези мили, безобидни създания. Чакаме да завали снегът. Харесва ни тук.

2 декември.

Най-сетне заваля сняг. Ура! Всичко е покрито с пухкаво бяло покривало. Сякаш сме в коледна картичка! Замеряхме се със снежни топки. Внезапно снегоринът мина покрай нас и зарина целия паркинг със сняг, но аз набързо го изчистих. Колко е хубаво тук! Обичам тази страна!

12 декември.

Пак валя сняг. Снегоринът пак ми зарина целия паркинг.

19 декември.

Цяла нощ валя. Не можах да почистя паркинга и закъснях за работа. Тук наистина е прекрасно, но вече нямам сили да чистя паркинга. Само да не беше този кретен със снегорина!

22 декември.

Тази бяла гадост пак се сипа цяла нощ! Вече имам кървави пришки по ръцете и кръстът ме боли! Оставам с впечатлението, че този изрод със снегорина ме дебне иззад ъгъла и само чака да изхвърля снега от паркинга: Мръсно копе…..е!

25 декември.

Merry Fu…..n’ Christmas! Пак този скапан сняг! Само да се докопам до гърлото на този кучи син със снегорина! Местните тъпаци изобщо не сипват сол по пътищата, човек може да се убие някъде!

27 декември.

И пак валя цяла нощ! Трети ден не излизам от къщата, ако не броим всяко изскачане след снегорина. Не мога да мръдна никъде. Колата е някъде под снега, а някакъв идиот по телевизора обещава още 20 сантиметра тази нощ. Кретен! Ти знаеш ли колко лопати сняг са тия 20 сантиметра?!

28 декември.

Онова кречетало от телевизора сбърка. Наваля 50 сантиметра. Този ши_ан сняг няма да се стопи до лятото! Снегоринът заседна пред нашата къща и говедото, което го кара, дотърча да ми иска лопата! Казах му, че съм счупил вече шест лопати, разчиствайки след него, и сега ще счупя седмата в овчата му глава!

4 януари.

Най-сетне измъкнах колата от снега и от паркинга!!! Отидох до супермаркета да напазарувам. На връщане някакъв проклет лос изскочи пред колата и ми разби цялата предница! Защо тия лaй_ _ри ловците не избиха всичките лосове още миналата година??! По пътищата гъмжи от тези твари! Сега има да плащам 3000 долара за ремонт!

10 май.

Край, заминавам за Флорида. Не мога да повярвам, че нормален човек ще се съгласи да живее в ши _ _ната им Канада!

След няколко дни в Ню Йорк предстои да се проведе един от най-големите Балкански фестивали -  Golden Festival 2012. Той ще се състои за 27-и пореден път в Brooklyn, на 13 и 14 януари 2012 г. в Grand Prospect Hall. На 13-и, петък, програмата започва в 19:30 часа, и продължава с музика и танци до 00:30 часа през нощта. На следващия ден, в събота фестивалът започва в 18:00 часа и ще продължи до ранни зори в неделя.

Миналата година се събраха 71 групи и отделни певци, като съботните концерти протичаха едновременно на 4 ралични сцени.  Звучаха песни на български, албански, ромски (Gypsy), македонски, сръбски, гръцки, турски, но също и на украински, норвежки и много други езици. Участници и гости, посетители се наслаждаваха на необикновенни песни и необикновенни ритми: песни и танци до зори. Предлагаха се същевременно  балкански вкусотии, имаше и много изненади. Атмосферата бе белязана от едно общество където млади и стари, професионалсти и аматьори се бяха събрали, за да се насладят на магията на музиката. И сега ще има възможност да се играе хоро – с приятелите, с които сте дошли, както и с нови приятели, с които тепърва е завързано запознанство.

New York’s biggest Balkan music event and showcase, is back in Brooklyn for its 27th anniversary, January 13th and 14th, 2012 at Grand Prospect Hall, a spectacularly restored historic landmark in Park Slope. All music is live.

7:30 pm Friday begins with an hour long dance workshop, then continues with music and dance until 12:30 am.

6 pm Saturday the festival resumes and doesn’t wind down until early Sunday morning

Would you return $10,000 in cash?

Most people arriving on flights to Las Vegas end up losing money, not finding it. However, that wasn’t the case for Mitch Gilbert.

On a recent trip to Sin City, the Colorado native stumbled upon $10,000 in cash inside McCarran International Airport. The enormous sum was stuffed inside two envelopes bearing the Caesar’s Palace logo, according to Gilbert.

Instead of attributing his find to Lady Luck and continuing on his way, the Good Samaritan did all he could to track down the money’s rightful owner. After persistently calling the airport for more than two weeks, Gilbert finally got the name of someone who reported the missing money.

Ignacio Marquez, the lucky-then-unlucky-then-lucky-again 10 grand winner, said he dropped the money when running to catch a flight. After being reunited with his wayward winnings, Marquez expressed his utmost gratitude to Gilbert. “You do not find people like this,” he told a local news outlet.
